Wavesport Hydra
The Wave Sport Hydra & Hydra LV are touring kayaks, but a touring kayak with many heads. Both Hydras are perfectly happy paddling along a normal calm river or lake or clocking up the miles on small to mid length expeditions. Both sizes of the Hydra have a good amount of water line length allowing for an easy cruising speed with cracking stability to match. But the Hydras also have a good amount of rocker and some clear chines, now thats when the Hydra's next head strikes.
Wave Sport have given both sizes of the Hydra plenty of rocker allowing that playful edge we all long for in our touring kayak, beacuse of this rocker the Hydras are just as at home on the flat water (lakes & rivers) as on some more challengeing conditions, like the sea and esturies. Put either Hydra in some mild surf and performs incredibly well, the more pronouced rocker allows the Hydras to rise over waves with ease and also catch waves for some exhilarating surfing action aswell. Should you want to do some rock hopping, skill permitting, the Hydra & Hydra LV will allow this, offering the ability to accelerate and turn quickly when required.
Bow and stern storage with rubber hatches and sealed bulkheads provide ample stroage for anything you want to take with you, while the small deck hatch on the foredeck just in front of the paddle position, allows you to keep things you might need in a hurry close at hand. Deck bungees and reflective deck lines allow for topdeck side storage and attachment, and really finish the storage in the Hydra of well.
Wave Sport have given both models of the Hydra one of the most comfortable seats on the market, the Wave Sport Core Whiteout seating system taken from their Whitewater range. This features a padded seat base and backband, dual ratchet adjustable backband, ratchet adjustable leg lifter, adjustable thigh braces, flip over carry hip pads and adjustable foot pedals. This amazing outfitting allows the best connectivity to the kayak when you require it in the surf for example, or a more relaxed fit should your trip not require that brilliant locked in feeling.
It doesn't end there either Wave Sport have added 2 sections of Yak Attack Gear Trac Rail behind the seat for all those added accessories we like to carry, like cameras to catch us on that perfect wave. As with any touring kayak worth its weight, the Hydra and Hydra LV have a drop down skeg that is easily adjustable to allow just the right amount of skeg whatever conditions you find yourself in.
Overall either Hydra really is a multi purpose and impressive touring, surf and light sea kayak that can cope with almost everything you throw at it and keep you comfortable while doing it.
The Hydra LV is near identical in performance as it's higher volume sibling however it is designed and sized with smaller paddlers in mind, the low volume overall size make this a perfect women's touring kayak or for smaller/younger paddlers in general.
